Tech. Sgt. Anthony Dupio, an MC-130H/P Aerospace Propulsion Craftsman assigned to the 353rd Special Operations Group supported the 109th Air National Guard unit during Operation Deep Freeze. He served as the lead propulsion technician servicing four 109th ANG LC-130s, a ski-equipped United States Air Force variant of the C-130 Hercules used in the Arctic and Antarctic. Operation Deep Freeze is ran by the United States Antarctic Program/National Science Foundation. The 109th ANG unit provided transport of food, fuel, cargo, and personnel to and from Christchurch, New Zealand, and the outlying research camps throughout Antarctica to include the South Pole station to further the research on the polar ice caps/Antarctic continent.
