Airmen from the 17th Special Operations Squadron delivered water, food, fuel and other general supplies to the members of the 353rd Special Operations Group forward deployed to Sendai Airport March 16.

The crew flew an MC-130P Combat Shadow and became only the second fixed-wing aircraft to land at the airport since combat controllers from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron reopened the runway earlier in the day. The Sendai Airport was severely damaged by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that rocked northeastern Japan March 11.

Currently, about 150 Airmen from the 353rd SOG are deployed supporting humanitarian relief operations in Japan.
