SOG, Kadena Airmen visit battle sites 65 years later

More than two dozen Airmen from the 353rd Special Operations Group and Team Kadena visited multiple locations on the island during a Battle of Okinawa site tour sponsored by the 353rd SOG April 23.

During their tour they visited the Battle of Okinawa historical display at Camp Kinser, the Naval Underground Headquarters in Naha, and the Okinawa Peace Memorial Museum at Itoman City.

The Battle of Okinawa started exactly 65 years ago this month and an estimated 250,000 people lost their lives here on Okinawa. It is considered one of the bloodiest battles of World War II.

While taking a tour of the battlegrounds, the Airmen saw the facts and figures of the battle, and experienced the feeling of knowing their presence on Okinawa did not come without a price.
