Wounded, injured or ill active-duty members are invited along with their family members and caregivers to the Air Force Special Operations Command Warrior C.A.R.E. Summit April 25-29 at an off-base resort near Hurlburt Field, Florida.

This is a fully funded event, including lodging and meals. Participants will have dedicated time for networking, education, camaraderie, relaxation and inspiration.

The purpose of the summit is to help build support for AFSOC wounded, injured or ill members, said Lisa Dunaway, AFSOC Warrior C.A.R.E. (Connection, Awareness, Resources, Endurance) program manager.

“This is a time for them to relax, learn more about themselves, and grow and support one another as a family,” Dunaway said. “It helps to know that they are not alone in their journey, wherever they may be.”

In addition to several keynote speakers, local and professional leaders will host break-out sessions on topics including intimacy, finances, medical care, resiliency and sleep.

“We have an amazing team of people who are looking at the heart of the challenges our Airmen and families may be facing,” said Dunaway. “AFSOC wants to give back to them – for the sacrifices they endured not only physically or mentally, but as a family.”

Space is limited to 50 active-duty members, Dunaway said.

“They can attend alone or bring family members and caregiver with them,” she said. “There isn’t a limit on the number of dependents they bring.”

Military members will travel on Preservation of the Force and Family-funded TDY orders with leadership approval.

The Warrior C.A.R.E. program ensures family members and caregivers are linked to others who are facing similar obstacles. The program increases their awareness of available assets on and off base, locally and nationally.
